WHAT IS CLINICAL PILATES?

Unlike a regular Pilates class, Clinical Pilates is not a one size fits all approach. You will be assessed by a trained Physiotherapist who will prescribe specific exercises based on the individuals needs. The exercises are designed to specifically rehabilitate injuries or to work on movement patterns and strength deficits that are identified by your Physiotherapist. At Flow Physio Co, we have a boutique equipment studio with a maximum of 4 people per class. This ensures we can maintain attention to detail, progress exercises at the right time and achieve the best possible results for you. We also offer one-on-one private Pilates sessions.

WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM CLINICAL PILATES?

Clinical Pilates is ideal for anyone recovering/rehabilitating from an injury, rehabilitation from spinal surgery, anyone experiencing chronic pain, prenatal and post natal women or recovery from women’s health surgery, elite athletes with specific training goals and older individuals who want to exercise in a safe environment. Clinical Pilates is also great for anyone wanting to participate in Pilates in a more intimate and individually tailored session.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

Small group classes and one-on-one Pilates sessions are run on Monday, Thursday & Saturdays. All new participants are required to undergo an Initial Pilates Assessment. This is a private one-on-one consultation and involves the Physiotherapist taking a detailed medical and injury history along with a physical assessment to determine any weaknesses or specific areas to address. This thorough assessment allows the Physiotherapist to customise a pilates program specifically to you. In this initial session you will be shown how to correctly activate your pelvic floor and deep core muscles as well as correct breathing techniques, you will also be shown how the equipment works and will begin some of the program designed for you.

WHAT IS PRENATAL PILATES?

Prenatal Pilates is for pregnant women. During pregnancy the uterus and baby are continually growing, placing additional strain on the pelvic floor muscles and lower back. Prenatal pilates can prepare the expecting mother for the demands of birth, whether this be a vaginal delivery or cesarean section, as well as helping with aches and pains associated with pregnancy itself. This is not a prenatal class where every women is completing the same exercises, your program will be based on your specific needs as assessed in your initial consultation, whilst also incorporating your birthing plan into the program.

WHAT IS POSTNATAL/MUM'S AND BUBS PILATES?

Postnatal Pilates usually begins 6 weeks after the birth of your child. Prior to commencing classes, we offer a 6 week post partum check where we thoroughly examine the integrity of your pelvic floor and transverse abdominus (deep core muscle). We will also check for a Diastasis Recti (abdominal separation), wound check if you have had a Caesarean and a general assessment to ensure you are safe to return to exercise. Following the 6 week check we recommend joining the Mums and Bubs Pilates class. This class has a maximum capacity of 2 people which allows room for you to bring your baby and allows the Physiotherapist to monitor you more closely. This session will be 40 minutes.
