A diagnosis doesn't mean you stop moving
Whether it's osteoarthritis in a hip or knee, an osteoporosis result, or a condition that has made exercise feel uncertain, the question is usually the same: what can I do, and how much? That is what an exercise physiologist is for - a program built around your body, your history and what you want to keep doing.
What to expect at your first appointment
Your first appointment is a one-on-one session of about 45 minutes with an accredited exercise physiologist.
We start with a conversation about your health history, any diagnoses, scans or reports you have, and what you want to get back to. Then a movement assessment - strength, balance and how you move through everyday tasks - followed by a clear explanation of where to start.
You leave with an individualised program and a plan for how we progress it together, in the clinic or at home.

Common questions
Do I need a referral?
No - you can book directly with us. If your GP has set up a Chronic Disease Management plan, part of each eligible session is rebated by Medicare.
What's the difference between an exercise physiologist and a physiotherapist?
Physiotherapists assess and treat injuries and pain. Exercise physiologists design and supervise exercise programs for health conditions, rehabilitation and long-term strength. Many people see both - if you're not sure which you need, book either and we'll point you to the right one.
Can I claim on private health insurance?
Yes - most Australian health funds cover exercise physiology under extras, and we offer direct billing at the clinic.
I'm over 65 and haven't exercised in years - is this for me?
Yes. Programs start where you are, not where a textbook says you should be, and every exercise is chosen and progressed for you.
How long is each session and how much does it cost?
| Appointment | Length | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Initial session | 45 minutes | $148 |
| Standard consultation | 30 minutes | $125 |
| Extended consultation | 60 minutes | $177 |
| Group class | 50 minutes | $56 |
Private health direct billing available; the gap depends on your fund and level of cover. NDIS, DVA and workers compensation sessions are billed at the scheduled rates.
Do you run group classes?
Yes - small supervised exercise physiology classes at our Sutherland clinic, each person on their own program. Most people start one-on-one and move into a class once their program is set.
What should I wear or bring?
Comfortable clothes you can move in and supportive shoes. Bring any scans, reports, care plans or NDIS details you already have.
Where is the clinic and is parking available?
Exercise physiology runs at our Sutherland clinic: Shop 1/728 Old Princes Highway, with free council parking directly out the front and back.
Our exercise physiologists are accredited with Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA). Flow Physio Co is an Australian Physiotherapy Association member practice.
